11-17-10 backyard bird count..

810am…38F…sunny…no new sightings.

3 House Finches, 3 American Robins, 1 Mourning Dove, 1 Northern Cardinal, 3 Dark-eyed Juncos, 5 Eurasian Tree Sparrows, 1 Downy Woodpecker.

This count was over about 20 minutes.  The Robins were in a Sweet Gum tree just behind my backyard picking through the trees.  They were either eating seeds, which I doubt, or picking through the squirrel nests for insects, which I’ve seen them do before.  Well, I assume it’s for insects because it’s not for the squirrels…lol.  The Mourning Dove was sunning itself on a wire and must have sat for over 30 minutes.  The rest were visiting the feeders.  Very light traffic for  a counting session.

I will get more consistent with the counting in the morning.  The times may vary a bit, but I will try and put 15 minutes of counting in several times a week.
